Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility.
The project model becomes a shared knowledge resource to support decision making about a facility from the earliest conceptual stages through design, construction and operational life of the facility. Having an accurate design model with real information that includes architectural, structural and all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems assists in identifying critical issues early in the construction process. Using BIM mitigates many of the traditional impacts to project schedules and budgets, as the entire system is previewed in 3D.
Irontree provides the detailing for all plumbing systems during the 3D modeling process. Being a part of these BIM projects allows Irontree to collaborate with other trades in the clash detection phase to resolve collisions and conflicts before the physical construction begins. This process allows for open communication and most importantly, streamlining the workflow of the construction project. Irontree is then able to utilize the information of the plumbing systems from the finished model for pipe and fitting take off as well as layout. Irontree uses up-to-date versions of Autodesk Revit for all modeling and Autodesk Navisworks for all coordination. Irontree’s recently purchased an add-on for the Autodesk Revit software, SysQue pipe. This enables real manufacturers’ content to be modeled by designers and contractors in systems with construction and fabrication levels of development (LOD 300 and 400) including pipe connectivity, true cut length, fitting counts, and auto flanges.
